dbramante1928 gets net-zero science-based targets approved by SBTi
dbramante1928 can proudly announce that its targets set to achieve net-zero greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions across its entire value chain by 2050 have been approved by the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi).
Science Based Targets initiative is the global standard for setting science-based GHG emission reduction targets. The initiative provides a clearly defined pathway for companies to reduce GHG emissions and assesses the validity of companies' specific targets.
The UN’s Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) has stipulated that all companies must achieve net-zero emissions by 2050 to prevent the worst impacts of climate change. dbramante1928 has followed suit and set ambitious net-zero targets through SBTi's 'Corporate Net-Zero Standard,' which has now been approved by SBTi.
The Net-Zero Standard is the world's only science-based framework for how companies achieve net-zero. The main objective is to provide a standardized and robust approach for corporations to set net-zero targets in line with climate science.
dbramante1928 is the only CE accessories brand that has had greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions reduction targets validated as science-based by the SBTi and is one of just 844 companies worldwide with approved net-zero targets (only 30 of these are Danish)[1].
dbramante1928’s SBTi journey
dbramante1928’s SBTi journey started back in 2021 when it committed to its near-term target to reduce absolute scope 1 and 2 by 30% by 2030 with 2018 as the base year. To achieve a validated net-zero target, companies must have a validated near-term target and a validated long-term target. This means, that to achieve dbramante1928’s overall net-zero target, SBTi has also approved the re-submission of dbramante1928’s near-term target and approved its long-term target. These targets serve as the means to achieve the net-zero target.
In short, the latest approvals from SBTi reinforce that dbramante1928’s targets set to achieve its overall net-zero target hold water and validate the net-zero targets as science-based.
Dennis Dress, CEO, and co-founder of dbramante1928: “Today we announce the validation of the most important long-term climate target in dbramante1928’s journey towards sustainability. SBTi’s approval of our net-zero targets highlights that our sustainability efforts are in line with climate science and that these initiatives are integrated across our entire value chain. It shows that we are serious about contributing to a better future for the planet and people.
While we recognise there is much work to be done, we are immensely proud to be one of the few companies worldwide that are leading the way towards a science-based net-zero future. The climate science is clear: All companies must work towards net-zero by 2050 and actions needs to be taken now. I urge all company leaders to get involved and join the SBTi.”
dbramante1928’s SBTi targets
Overall target:
dbramante1928 commits to reach corporate net-zero by 2050.
Near-term target:
dbramante1928 commits to reduce scope 1 and scope 2 GHG emissions 30% by 2030 from a 2018 base year.
Long-term target:
dbramante1928 commits to reduce scope 1+2+3 emissions 90% by 2050 from a 2018 base year.
The above targets were approved by the SBTi using a streamlined target validation route exclusive to small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs).
About corporate net-zero:
The SBTi Net-Zero Standard defines corporate net-zero as:
- Reducing scope 1, 2, and 3 emissions to zero or to a residual level that is consistent with reaching net-zero emissions at the global or sector level in eligible 1.5°C-aligned pathways
- Neutralizing any residual emissions at the net-zero target year and any GHG emissions released into the atmosphere thereafter.
About measuring greenhouse gas emissions:
Greenhouse gas emissions are categorised into three groups or 'Scopes' by the most widely used international accounting tool, the Greenhouse Gas (GHG) Protocol.
Scope 1: Covers direct emissions from owned or controlled sources.
Scope 2: Covers indirect emissions from the generation of purchased electricity, steam, heating, and cooling consumed by the reporting company.
Scope 3: Includes all other indirect emissions that occur in a company’s value chain.
About the SBTi:
SBTi is a partnership between CDP, the United Nations, World Resources Institute (WRI) and the World Wildlife Fund for Nature (WWF). The initiative aims to drive ambitious climate action in the private sector by enabling organizations to set science-based emissions reduction targets.
SBTi shows companies and financial institutions how much and how quickly they need to reduce their greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions to prevent the worst effects of climate change.
By guiding companies in science-based target setting, SBTi enables them to tackle global warming while seizing the benefits and boosting their competitiveness in the transition to a net-zero economy.
